Struggling to Start My HR Career: Should I Pay for Training or Explore Other Paths?

I have completed an MBA in HR (SMU) this year and graduated in Geography (H). I'm searching for a job but not getting any chance because of being a fresher and having poor communication skills. Recently, I received an interview call from a consulting Pvt Ltd. Initially, they gave me a question paper and answer sheet with a pass mark of 12 out of 28. Following that, the interviewer conducted my interview.

During the interview, he mentioned that they hire candidates through two ways - first is directly (for experienced candidates only) and the second is through training. The training period is for 6 weeks, with 21 days of classroom training and 21 days of on-the-job training. They charge Rs. 10,000 for this training, and upon completion, they provide placement and a certificate (CRP-Certified Recruitment Professional).

Please advise whether I should proceed with this opportunity or not. Also, could you guide me on the various positions in HR (HR-Executive, HR-Generalist, Recruiter, etc.)? As a fresher, how do I start my career in HR?

Hi Mahesh, I am facing the same problem. I am currently pursuing my MSW final year, and I am worried about whether I will be able to get an HR job or not. My friend told me that I need to develop a lot of knowledge about HR. There are only 6 months left before I will be a postgraduate in social work, and I will need to start searching for a job. I would appreciate your help in guiding me on what kind of knowledge I can develop within this specific time frame.

Caution When Dealing with Consultancies

Never give money to any company or consultancy before you receive the appointment letter in hand. Try to approach consultancies that do not charge any fees or only charge a percentage of your first month's salary. However, never pay any money in the name of training.

Don't invest money in such things. Firstly, try to improve your body language and oral skills. Watch English news, read novels, and follow the tips posted on most websites. Stand in front of a mirror and practice speaking while looking at yourself. This will boost your confidence, and nothing can hold you back.
