Hi Shabha,
Curiously want to know what makes you think of HR as a career. Coz from your question, i can only judge that you assume HR would help you to be at top and get a fat salary.
If that is the case, do not change as you might not be happy to change.
If you're really passionate abt HR and interacting to employees abt their problems and wish to work towards bridging the gap b/w employees and organization, pls go fwd and pursue MBA/PGDM (HR) and get placed as HR.
You'r starting would be either by a generalist or a recruitment profile with a decent pay. You can always enhance your skill and climb the ladder sooner and explore your capabilitites.
Initial Salary - it would depend on the company & industry, you'r skill set & profile.
Reaching the top - You can always have generalist kind of profile and then move to strategic HR and then you could be business partner - HR.
Hope it helped.
