Validity of First Aid Training Under the Factories Act

Please let me know what the validity of First Aid training is under the Factories Act. We trained our employees in first aid three years ago. Is their first aid training still valid, or do we need to provide a refresher course for them? I would also like to know the section number and the act where the validity for first aid training is mentioned.

You should assess the effectiveness of the training provided. You can conduct mock trials to determine if refresher training is necessary.

Exactly. Amit, as Mr. Sudhir has put it, it is how well the employees respond to even mock drills that depends a lot on the conclusion to be taken up—whether they require a refresher course or not. Moreover, it is the readiness with which the response is coming forward that matters most in this context. So, just conduct a mock drill of injuries and see how your employees fare.

If you have provided First Aid Training to the employees through St. John Ambulance or any other reputable authorized training provider, they issue a training certificate that clearly mentions the certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of training. After 3 years, you need to provide employees with First Aid refresher training.

I have inquired at St. John Ambulance, Mumbai office, but they are saying there is no provision to provide a Special Certificate that will be valid forever, even if an employee is certified two or three times for three years each. If you have anything in writing, please post it on Citehr so that we can follow up with St. John Ambulance Mumbai office.

Training is a continual process where practice makes a difference. However, for validating the first aid training of employees, the time limit is three years. They should approach the respective training agency to validate their First Aid certificate.

Normally, the validity of first aid training is one year. You have to provide refresher training to your employees every year, and we will also issue the certificates.

Kunal

Please contact us regarding the above information. We will provide you with the necessary training and certificates.

Validity of First Aid Certification in the Indian Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance

In the Indian Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance joint certificate, the validities are as follows:

- Senior Certificate: Three Years Validity
- Voucher Certificate: Five Years Validity
- Medallion: Lifetime Validity

If any person continues refreshing their First Aid certification every year, they can obtain a lifetime valid certificate. The gap between two courses should be not less than one year and not more than three years.

Dear Amit,

I would like to add information about it. As per the industrial act, the institutes approved by DISH Ms. Govt, like ours, can issue certificates after the proper training which are valid for 3 years. However, a refresher course is necessary after 6 months or a year as they do not use medical knowledge very often as we do.
