Is It Normal to Deduct ESI Without Issuing a Card? Seeking Advice on Next Steps

Rangaswamaiah
I'm working in one of the limited companies in Bangalore. My gross salary is ₹10,000 per month, including allowances. They are deducting ₹150 for professional tax. Please suggest if I am required to pay the PT or not.

Concern About ESI Deductions

Another concern is that they have been deducting ₹175 for ESI for the last four months, but they have not yet issued any ESI letter or ESI card. Please advise on what steps to take.

Thank you.

All employees whose gross salary ranges from 3000 onwards have to pay PT. There is a slab for different states of India. For Karnataka, there is no PT for Gross Salary up to Rs. 2999.

Professional Tax (PT) Slabs

Gross Salary PT
Rs. 3000-4999 Rs. 30/-
Rs. 5000-7999 Rs. 60/-
Rs. 8000-9999 Rs. 100/-
Rs. 10000-14999 Rs. 150/-
Rs. 15000 onwards Rs. 200/-

Employee State Insurance (ESI) Contribution

ESI up to Rs. 15000 (Max Gross Salary)
Employee's Share - 1.75% (From Gross)
Employer Share - 4.75% (- do -)

Both calculations are compulsory by the government for all employees of registered companies.

As soon as you are entered on the Muster roll, your name should be included in the ESI declaration. After your ESI number is allotted, it is necessary for remittance. Therefore, you should approach HR and request your ESI card.
