How Do IIM MBA HR Courses Stand Out? Seeking Insights from IIM Graduates

Hi! Can anyone from IIM please tell me how the course and lectures are designed and the way they are taught in MBA HR? Because this is what makes the difference between an ordinary MBA and an MBA from IIM. Please, please share with us what makes you different so that we can benefit from your knowledge and tips. How are you people trained to get through the toughest interviews for great positions? What are the loopholes in the education system in other MBA institutions? And please tell us specifically about HR.

The difference is not so much in the books but in the environment, the competition between high-achieving peers, and the quality of interactions between peers and teacher-students. You cannot replicate that learning, though, of course, there could be other ways you can compensate yourself for the learning, especially while working. You could be more proactive, take more responsibility, deliver better results, and be ready to take on new challenges. These experiences would give you amazing learning, which a lot of IIM grads too would be lucky to have.

Do you ask this question as an educationist or as a practitioner? Bodhi Sutra has rightly pointed out the value additions that make education at IIM so effective. There are professional organizations that you may join where similar skills can be garnered.

What remains to be decided is which direction you are trying to groom: is it for any particular subject in Management or the overall understanding?

Specialization in IIM Courses

I don't think there is a specialization subject in IIM. They learn all enterprise-oriented courses. In IIM, there is no specialization in subjects like Finance, HR, or Marketing.

Takeaways from an MBA

What are the takeaways from an MBA? Only two things: knowledge and recognition. Knowledge is similar to any other MBA course, and IIM scores high on recognition, but the importance of HR courses is limited. My suggestion is to join XLRI, TISS, or any specialized HR college.
