Dear Susant,
Strictly speaking, duties of security guard are varied in various organizations. But one common thing is he is responsbile for the security of the resources (manpower, material etc).
Generally the security guard is supposed to keep track of the entry and exit of any movable items or manpower from and out of the company.and ward off any unauthorized entry of humans or vehicle inside the factory.
He should be on vigil always and a well trained and experience in handling any type of emergency that can occur at any point of time.
For some more clarity, you can refer books available in any good library or google.

9) Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.

0) Escort or drive motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection.

11) Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.

12) Drive and guard armored vehicle to transport money and valuables to prevent theft and ensure safe delivery.

Visibility
Security guards should remain visible as a deterrent to criminals. Thefts, damage and injuries can be thwarted when the perpetrators see a security guard.
Alert
Security guards must remain alert to watch for abnormal activity or hear any unusual sounds.
Record
Instead of rushing into a dangerous situation, security guards are required to record events, take down license plate numbers and remember features to report the findings to the authorities.
Report
Security guards should have access to a phone or radio to report suspicious activity or crimes in progress.
Inspection
On some posts, security guards are required to check visitors' badges and access authority. They may be asked to check bags of visitors leaving a facility.

these are the points u mentioned is not enough for me as i have to give a presentation on this in the ISO format which should cover all the aspects as per the plant point of view . and i am in a chemical plant . So, if u have any thing related to this then pls forward me.

Can any one also help me with the essential contents of a letter of intent, supply order and contract with a pvt vendor (security provider) to cover all eventualities, with the pit falls that can lead to unnecessary conflict?
