Dear Mr. Vijay,

Very interesting thread.

Manpower fixation in the different departments depends on the :

FIRST :

Nature of Industry

Nature of work to be performed

Nature of processes and

The shifts to be run.

For exemple we are talking about the manufacturing industry running for 24 ours (All shifts:

SECOND :

You have to carry workload analyses of different departments. The concerned departmental heads shall raise the Manpower demand. But as HR professional You have take proper justification for the same.............For this practically you have to observe departmental activities for different job roll. Moreover the interaction with the concerned Job Holder is very much crucial and necessary to have Job descriptions and job specifications for strengthen your point of view for proper justification for fixation.

THIRD

Once the requirement is known for the job........ie

Lets say we require 10 persons in a particular department then you have to fix manpower as

10 + (17 % for rest days) = 12 employees. Hence 12 employees are fixed on the basis of justification.

plz note : provision of rest days have been taken. But depending on the nature of maonpower and absenteeism, accordingly the provision has to be taken.

I hope that the repply shall satisfy you .

Dear Mr. Vijay,
Mr. Ramesh has answered you.
In addition to that i think you can also try Time and Motion Study if yours is a manufacturing unit.
Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir
