How Are Earned Leaves Calculated for Employees Joining Mid-Year?

If the leave cycle in a company starts from April every year, and an employee joins in September, how is his earned leave calculated? Please clarify the calculations of all leaves with examples, please.

Dear Gautami,

Earned Leave is credited in two installments, in advance of every six months, i.e., 15 days. In the case of a newly appointed staff member in the middle of the month, Earned Leave shall be credited on a pro-rata basis, i.e., for each completed month. Could you please provide me with details about your leave policy?

Can anybody help me with how to calculate earned leave? My concern is if earned leave is given on earned leave. For example, if anybody is on leave for 30 continuous days in a year, when calculating the leave, should we consider 11 months or 12 months?

In our organization, 11 days make 1 earned leave. If an employee joins on 15/07/2008 and he had taken 8 days of EL from 22/03/2009 to 29/03/2009, 6 days of EL from 01/08/2011 to 06/08/2011, and 5 days of medical leave from 18/08/2011 to 22/08/2011, then what will be his balance EL as of 30/09/2011? Can anyone please provide me with the formula?
