Career Transition from IT to HR

Currently, I am working as a System Administrator (IT) with 4.8 years of experience in a reputed IT company. I hold a B.E. in IT with a strong academic background and excellent communication and writing skills.

I recently completed my MBA in HR from ICFAI University, Tripura, through Distance Learning this January and am now looking to transition into the HR field. I have several questions weighing on my mind. Will my past IT experience be considered? How can I successfully secure a new job in HR? Will my Distance Learning qualification support my transition to a new role?

I would greatly appreciate any career suggestions or guidance on this matter.

As far as my opinion is concerned, you should not leave your current field (IT). This field is highly paid, and since you have technical knowledge, you will get good value if you are an expert in it. However, if you want to transition to the HR field, and since you have completed your MBA in HR, you can switch from IT to HR. In my opinion, your diverse expertise will be appreciated. You should try applying for some HR jobs, and at the initial level, you may encounter some difficulties in securing a job. However, sooner or later, you will succeed.

Hi Atif, I have tried to update my resume and uploaded it to a few job sites. However, I am not receiving any calls yet. Could you please guide me on how I should proceed to search for an HR job? My current skills are different from my desired skills, so when I mention my current skills, I only receive job recommendations for my current profile. Customizing Your CV for HR Transition

As this is the time of customization, update your CV and modify it according to the needs of the company where you are applying. Change your objective in your CV and modify it to mention your interest in HR. Highlight your HR-related projects and your internships (if you have done an internship in Human Resources, then it is much better for you). Highlight your HR-related skill set in your CV such as being a good team leader/team player, people management skills, time management, communication, etc. Highlight the workshops you have attended related to HR.

Again, focus on the needs of the company - what they want.

I work as a Systems Admin, which is not much of my interest. Here, I need to work in shifts and am unsure of holidays on weekends. Above all, I am not very comfortable as a female. I am married and have a small kid, so I can't take up such uncertain jobs. Therefore, I pursued my HR studies through Distance Learning and want to transition into that field. HR is also my area of interest. I would appreciate your suggestions.
