I joined a multinational company (MNC) in Bangalore 6 months ago and am currently still on probation. I received 3 lakhs as a joining/sign-on bonus after taxes. Now, I am resigning from the company. According to my appointment letter, I will be required to repay the full 3 lakhs if I leave the company within 1 year. However, I am requesting the company to prorate the return of the joining bonus as I have already worked for 6 months and it has been taxed.
Could you please advise me on whether this request is legal according to labor laws or any other relevant regulations?
