Emergency Response Teams in Factories
Emergency Response Teams are required to be formed in factories to deal with any kind of emergency. They may consist of:
- Fire Fighting Team
- First Aid Team
- Emergency Rescue Team
Their roles and responsibilities should be defined clearly and displayed at prominent places within the company. You may design their roles as per your organization’s requirements. However, for ease, the following points may be added:
1. Overall responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the plant.
2. To advise and assist management in fulfilling its obligations concerning the prevention of personal injuries and maintaining a safe working environment.
3. To ensure proper handling of hazardous chemicals, solvents, and effluents.
4. To ensure that all solvents are handled according to MSDS.
5. To ensure the safety of men, materials, machines, equipment, buildings, etc.
6. Ensure that an on-site emergency plan is available at all times.
7. To ensure proper safety measures before authorizing permit-to-work systems.
8. Ensure proper identification and availability of all fire extinguishers, fire hydrant pumps, and firefighting equipment.
9. Ensure Job Safety Analysis.
10. To investigate and report on all incidents/accidents and advise preventive measures.
11. Conduct safety inspections and follow up for CAPA.
12. Study imminent threats within the work facility.
13. Ensure that company personnel observe and follow established safety guidelines and wear all PPEs.
14. Assist in the conduct of fire and emergency drills.
15. To organize, in association with the concerned department, campaigns, contests, and other activities for establishing a safe working environment.
16. Hazardous waste management.
17. To ensure the conduct of all environmental monitoring, i.e., ambient air monitoring, stack (boiler and DG emission) and sound pollution monitoring, soil testing, and maintaining the records thereof.
18. Develop solutions to environmental problems involving water, air, noise pollution, waste recycling, and disposal.
19. To ensure regular training on safety, environment, first aid, and other related areas.
