Understanding Overtime Limits: How Many Extra Hours Can We Legally Offer Employees?

smthombare
As per the Maharashtra Factories Act, or any relevant act, please guide me on the maximum number of hours of overtime we can offer to employees. Kindly provide the reference of the act and section number so that I can study it further.

As per the Factories Act of 1948, you should not ask any employee to work beyond 60 hours in a week, i.e., 12 hours in a day and 48 hours in a month. A maximum of 2 hours in a quarter can be asked for overtime work, making the total 50 hours in a month.

Hope the matter is clear.

Clarification on Overtime Calculation

The total becomes 50 hours in a month; it's not correct. The total becomes 50 hours in a quarter is correct, but subject to permission from the Factory Inspector's Office.
