Is a Payroll Management Course Worth It for Breaking into Core HR? Seeking Advice!

sweets1223
Hi Seniors, I completed my MBA in HR & Finance in June 2012. I'm working in an Infrastructure Company as an Admin Executive for the past month. I'm interested in CORE HR activities, and I want to enter into those activities. I heard that Payroll Management courses are in demand these days. Please let me know if this is true. If so, please suggest an institute in Hyderabad whose certification is considered valuable.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi, you are right. There is a high demand for all domains in CoreHR. Instead of joining any training institutes, you can learn even from this forum. Here, you will receive expert advice from professionals. 

As you mentioned, you have just completed your MBA. I would like to suggest that you stay with the same organization for a while and take on extra responsibilities in addition to your Admin role. I mean that you should focus on the areas that interest you because this is just the beginning for you.

Payroll is one of the core HR activities. Apart from it, you can also try other core HR activities like talent management, performance management, training development, or employee engagement, etc. As Pradip suggested, try gaining exposure to these or any of these areas in the existing company by showing initiative to shoulder responsibilities.

Dear B. Saikumar, if the company does not permit the HR department to carry out activities related to performance management and other essential core HR work, what should one do?
