Celebrating Engineer's Day in India

The Engineering Community in India celebrates Engineer's Day every 15th of September. Even though the number of engineers in India is growing, it is unfortunate that many are not well-informed about this significant day.

Honoring Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya

This day marks the birthday of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, an eminent Indian engineer and statesman from Karnataka. He served as the chief engineer during the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara on the Kaveri River near Mysore. Additionally, he built many dams in the Bombay presidency (present-day Maharashtra). The dams he constructed are still functional today, a testament to his brilliance, skill, honesty, and dedication.

Thus, 15th September, Engineer's Day, is a remarkable tribute to the greatest Indian engineer, Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvarayya.

Many thanks for your post and for bringing to the knowledge of many (like me) regarding the celebration of Engineers' Day. Yes, Mr. Visvesvarayya made immense contributions during his long and distinguished career. Like his dams, he too lived a long life—102 years, if I remember correctly.

Greetings to all fellow engineers on this glorious occasion.
