Are There Mandatory Leave Rules for IT Companies in Karnataka? Seeking Clarity

Mary Christina Xavier
I work for an IT company with 30 employees.

1. I would like to know if there are specific or mandatory leave rules for IT companies.
2. Is the categorization of Casual, Sick, and Earned leave mandatory?
3. Does an IT company come under the Karnataka Shops and Establishments Act?

I would highly appreciate your responses.

Thanks and regards,
Christina

All the IT industries fall under the Karnataka Shops & Commercial Establishments Act. I am enclosing the same.

Thank you for your reply. I am unable to ascertain from the Karnataka Shops and Establishment Act whether the categorization of Casual, Sick, and Privilege Leave is mandatory. Could you please provide clarification on this matter?

In the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, they clearly mention EL/Earned Leave. That's nothing but Privilege Leave.

Thank you.

As per government rules, there are no specific regulations for Casual Leave (CL) or Sick Leave (SL). In consideration of employee welfare, management should define leave policies. However, it doesn't mean that it is mandatory.
