Feeling Stuck in a Low-Paying HR Role: Is It Time to Change Jobs Without a Degree?

shikha_hr
Hello, I am working as an HR/Administrator in a small IT company. I graduated with a BA from Delhi University and have 2.5 years of experience in HR and admin work. Currently, I am responsible for HR/Admin and Marketing (although I don't have much knowledge in Marketing) tasks. However, my salary package is low because it's a small company.

I don't have a degree in the same field. When would be the right time to change my job? Is it mandatory to pursue a degree course?

It is better to pursue a PG course in HR or an MBA in HR. As of now, don't look for a change. First, you should learn, gain knowledge, and prepare yourself to be competent alongside experienced individuals.

First of all, you have to go for a degree or PG course so that you can learn the basic things of that field. There is no need to change your current job. Try to acquire a basic knowledge of HR.

I am from an Arts background. If I choose to pursue an MBA, there are some subjects related to Commerce. I can't leave my job. So, where should I start? :-(

You should put a lot of effort into growing. Even though I am an arts graduate, I managed to complete my MBA through correspondence. The key thing is to have interest and willpower.

Consider Pursuing an MBA in HR

Please consider pursuing an MBA degree in HR from a recognized institute. Presently, there are several reputable institutes offering such degrees in our country. Since you are now fully matured, except for Math, if any, you can easily pick up other subjects within a short time. Additionally, you can seek guidance from experienced teachers. Initially, everyone faces challenges in grasping the job, but with time, they become experts in the subjects. Furthermore, we are here to support you. So, don't worry and work with full confidence.

As advised by other members of Citehr, you should go for a professional course in HR. You may do it through correspondence studies, as there are many institutes offering this facility for the working class.

By pursuing your course, you can get better in touch with your studies and gain good experience. Believe you can do it.

Best of luck...

Stay with the present company and learn everything by putting in hard work and smart work. It will elevate you to become the experienced one. Regarding marketing work, please consider what the company is actually expecting from you. Discuss this with the marketing team and define the job structure. Frame the job and prepare a checklist. Effective follow-up will ensure the completion of the marketing tasks.

Thanks,

Thanks to everyone for helping me here. I appreciate your comments.

Please let me know one more thing: how do I talk about my salary as I have completed 1.2 years in this company?

Thanks,
Shikha
