Sample Proposal For Training And Development

Aparnachetan
Dear All,

I would like to see how a sample proposal for Training and Development would look. I would like to understand how it is drafted and then sent to the organization for getting empaneled.

Regards,
Aparna

Dear Aparna,

What you are asking for is usually a topic for a 3-day training course or a 200-page book.

No, I am not trying to fob you off. Just iterating the enormity of the task - if you're really interested in creating a compelling and effective proposal - not like the 95% of horrible and useless proposals floating around currently.

From the sound of your post, it appears you want to showcase yourself and get empanelled with institutions and/or training vendors.

* My suggestion is to read 2 or 3 workbook-style books on 'Business Proposals' or 'Consultant Proposals'. There are a number of good e-titles on Kindle Store at Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more (if you have a Kindle reader or Kindle app for iPhone, iPad, or Android). While there are a number of books on Kindle Store, make sure you only pick those that have attached templates.

* An excellent resource is Business News & Strategy For Entrepreneurs | Entrepreneur.com. These guys publish the world-renowned Entrepreneur Magazine and have a treasure trove of useful and customizable templates for a whole variety of purposes. Another similar resource is Inc Magazine (Small Business Ideas and Resources for Entrepreneurs)

* Another excellent resource is the LinkedIn group - On Startups - this is a Dharmesh Shah enterprise and is brilliant for document templates.

Remember - you are NOT writing a Training Proposal. This is only written where a vendor has been in talks with a client who now wants a written proposal with the vendor's commercial terms of engagement, etc.

What you are writing is a BUSINESS SALES PROPOSAL.

And, this is perhaps the MOST IMPORTANT document you will EVER write. Any other document you write will be BECAUSE of your Sales Proposal. Believe me - I cannot emphasize this point enough.

So, please don't copy and paste someone else's proposal unless you can lay your hands on one from the Big-4 Accounting Firms, the Big-7 Consulting Firms, or one of the ET500 companies.

These guys spend tens of lakhs of rupees perfecting their Sales Proposals. At least they're worth copying and pasting - with the appropriate customization, of course!

I was in a similar situation about 2 years ago. Initially, I did the copy-paste thing. And, it was Horrible! Since then, I followed the above steps and also bought the hard copy of this book Writing Winning Business Proposals: Your Guide to Landing the Client, Making the Sale, Persuading the Boss: Richard C. Freed, Joe Romano, Shervin Freed: 9780070219250: Amazon.com: Books

It took about 3 months to get the proposal that WOWED recipients, and I was able to book meetings.

Yes, it did cost money and time, but it was totally Worth It!

So, my reply is from personal experience and journey - not some theoretical gyaan.

Good luck, Aparna!

Dear Aparna,

I've found these Kindle books on Amazon that may be of help to you in writing business proposals:

1. [Handbook for Writing Proposals (2nd edition)](http://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Writing-Proposals-Edition-ebook/dp/B003WJR5QS/ref=tmm_kin_title_0) by L. Sue Baugh for Rs 675 delivered via Whispernet. It contains downloadable forms which no doubt will be a HUGE timesaver. In fact, I think I'll buy one for myself while I am at it! Can never spend too much money on books - especially business books!

2. [Persuasive Business Proposals: Writing to Win More Customers, Clients, and Contracts](http://www.amazon.com/Persuasive-Business-Proposals-Customers-ebook/dp/B000S1LX1Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1346959521&am p;sr=1-1&keywords=business+proposals) by Tom Sant for Rs 696 delivered via Whispernet.

3. [The One-Page Proposal: How to Get Your Business Pitch into One Persuasive Page](http://www.amazon.com/The-One-Page-Proposal-Persuasive-ebook/dp/B004G8PR82/ref=sr_1_5?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1346959698&am p;sr=1-5&keywords=business+proposals) by Patrick G. Riley for Rs 672 delivered via Whispernet. Apparently, the 1-page system suggested in this book was recommended to the author by Mr. Adnan Khashoggi (one of the richest and most persuasive businessmen of the 1980s).

I hope these are of some help to you!
