Is Pursuing an HR Specialization in India Worth It for a Non-HR Professional? Seeking Insights on Career Growth and Salary Prospects

I am currently pursuing a distance learning MBA. In the upcoming semester, I need to choose a specialization. Considering my background in customer care, administration, and counseling (not HR), I am inclined towards selecting HR as my specialization. However, after discussing with some individuals, I find myself a bit uncertain.

Emerging HR Industry in India

Recently, I have come across opinions suggesting that the HR industry in India is still emerging and evolving, with limited opportunities for HR professionals. While there are numerous HR, placement, and recruitment firms, along with regular job postings for HR generalists or recruiters on various portals, it is believed that long-term growth prospects in HR are limited, leading to doubts about a successful career path in this field.

I would appreciate it if someone could provide clarity on these concerns. Additionally, I am curious about the potential salary prospects for a fresher with an MBA in HR but with previous experience in non-HR roles.

The scope of human resource management in India is very broad indeed. This is because there is an increasing number of jobs within the IT sector, and the number of young people looking for work is also on the rise. Therefore, the demand for young and talented individuals has increased dramatically.

Do not worry about the pay. First, concentrate on your course and try to excel in it. Pay and perks come automatically once people (management) notice your potential.

Scope of HR Careers in India

There is no good scope for HR in India. If you have studied at a very reputed MBA college, only then can you expect a good career in HR. Otherwise, you will feel throughout your life, "Why did I choose HR in my MBA?" You will find people in other fields rising more than you if you are in HR. If you are an exceptional student, then things will be different. If you are average, then don't choose HR.
