Confused About Evacuation Directions During Fires or Chemical Releases? Let's Clarify Together

SSM1975
Dear Friends, I have heard conflicting advice regarding which direction to run during a major fire or chemical release. Some suggest running opposite to the wind direction, while others recommend running perpendicular to the wind flow. I am seeking clarification and authenticated information on the correct direction. Kindly share your knowledge on this matter.

As per my understanding, it is against the wind direction only. From where did you read or come to know about this perpendicular direction? Let's wait for more responses from our other members.

I think we should prefer to run in a perpendicular direction. I have tried to explain the reason in the attached PowerPoint presentation with the help of a scenario and the position of people.

In my experience, my senior colleagues are also instructed to choose the perpendicular direction only. For example, if the wind direction is towards the south and the person is 100/200 meters away from the releasing source on the south side, moving towards the opposite direction means they have to move towards the releasing source direction up to 100/200 meters. Is that okay? I am eagerly waiting for our senior's reply.

Thank you.

Dear all, good learning from you all. So far, I have learned to take the opposite direction. Last week, we had a training program by an expert, and he mentioned the perpendicular direction. Thanks to all for your posts. @Hansa & viji75 - valuable inputs.
