Understanding Family Pension Benefits: How Much Support After a Loved One's Passing?

Kewal2008
If a member was receiving a pension after completing 10 years of service and reaching 50 years of age but passed away before turning 58 (retirement age), their family would also be eligible for a family pension if the member's last basic salary was above INR 6500. In this case, how much pension would their family members receive?

Details of the Family Members

- Wife: 53 years old
- Daughter: 22 years old
- Son: 18 years old

Please provide your opinion on the above situation.

Pension Eligibility in Case of Death Before Retirement Age

In the case of death before the age of 58 (retirement age), the wife will receive a pension even if the PF member did not have 10 years of service. The maximum ceiling for the pension is INR 6500. Even if the member's basic salary is above INR 6500, the calculations (8.33%) will be based on INR 6500 only. The pension will be received only by the minor child.

Pension Eligibility for Widow After PF Member's Death

If a PF member already worked for 10 years in an organization, applied for, and enjoyed the REDUCED PENSION (EARLY PENSION) under section 12b, and then joined another organization, working for some "X" years before turning 58, and subsequently passed away, what type of pension will the widow receive?

After his death before reaching 58 years, the PF member's wife will be eligible for the "WIDOW/er PENSION." In reference to the above case, the widow/er must apply for the "WIDOW/er PENSION" using application 10-D (16th column, if the pension is being drawn under E.P.S., 1995). She/he must mention the details about already "Receiving Pension (reduced/early pension)."

The PF authorities will then combine both pensions and calculate the WIDOW/er PENSION. As per my knowledge, I am not aware of the specific combined calculations, but they will ultimately decide on a final Widow/er pension and issue that pension.
