I do wish to ask if you regarded the "MIME File Type" as another suitable field to add to the table? Something like the freformatter.com page (I've saved the complete list on the PDF document attached.
The "MIME File Type" is perhaps a bit extra, but it's essential knowledge when one modifies their Default Program Settings on Windows computers. Especially if you stumble upon two files with identical file extensions but can't tell Windows opens different programs for each file!
XML documents are a good example of this, as XML format (and it's native settings and metadata) is not restricted to any particular program or software package, or even an operating system. XML files are encoded in Windows 1252, ISO-8859-1 and US-ASCII, though xml data can be saved as. xsl, .xhtml, .dtd and .wpl also. A "MIME File Type" should tell Windows what program to use if a file is being opened on a computer for the first time (or there isn't already a default program for the file's extension.
