I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in English for Employability. I would like to hear about your positive and negative experiences regarding how English has influenced your career. What obstacles have you encountered due to a lack of English proficiency, and what are the reasons behind poor English skills?

When I came to Delhi from my native place, my English was poor. Due to this, I failed to get any job in the service industry. Later on, I joined as a computer operator. I have now finished my MBA in HR. I need to improve my English. Could you kindly guide me on how I can communicate at an executive level?

Improving English for Career Success

I think this is a major problem when trying to secure employment in a reputable industry. You should practice with your friends and acquaintances and consider joining an English institute where you can also participate in group discussions. Additionally, make it a habit to read the English newspaper on a daily basis.

I think a number of people are facing this kind of problem. So, just start to speak in English with your callers and with whom you deal on a regular basis. I am not saying that you need to speak all the matter in English, but just start with one to two sentences, then progress to four to five. I believe you will find your confidence. :)

Steps to Improve Your English Skills

To improve your English, follow these steps:

1. Have a good friend with whom you can spend an hour every day talking in English.
2. Watch English news channels and movies.
3. Read English newspapers to learn vocabulary.
4. Don't be scared of making mistakes.
5. Have a passion for enhancing your English skills.

I studied in a Tamil medium school until my 12th Std, but today I am an English Professor with a successful career. Don't give up!
