How Do You Keep Office Birthday Celebrations Fun and Engaging for Everyone?

Hi,

I would like to know how you celebrate birthdays of employees in your organizations. In our office, we all get together, sing for the person, and present him/her with a bouquet. However, this has become quite boring now as most of them are just lip-syncing!! Please suggest some other ideas for celebrating birthdays; there are 40 of us in the office.

Involve them in innovative activities - team building games, encourage them to share jokes, ask them to initiate topics. Most people have inherent talents like singing, dancing, mimicry, etc. Take charge and encourage their participation. Make it exciting; employees will love it. Initially, it may be tough, so prepare them for these weekly gatherings and aim for a memorable event. Give it a try!

Add in a lovely cake with the flowers, or replace the flowers with a yummy cake. Keep greeting cards and flowers on the desk of the birthday girl/boy before they reach the office. Change the trick every time and let the suspense exist.

Instead of flowers, you can give a greeting card. Pass the card around the whole office so that everyone will write their wish on the card for the birthday guy/gal and then present the card to that person. This will be a lively greeting for the birthday person.

Ensure that the card has been signed by all the employees on the previous day itself. Let any member of the HR team interact for at least 2 minutes and give the card to him on the respective day.

Every month, you can specify the last Friday of the month. In the evening, you can arrange the cake where all those celebrating their birthdays in the respective month can cut their cake in the presence of all employees or at least their respective team members.

Card is a good idea. Let the card be a big one so that it can accommodate all signatures. Start the signature with their family members. You can surprise them by bringing any of their family members while cutting the cake.

For midsize companies, if the employee strength is around 100-300 employees, birthday celebration events can be well organized by gathering all the employees in the cafeteria or conference room. You can plan a birthday celebration, for example, on the first Friday of every month or as per convenience, it can be planned at the month-end, etc. 3-4 big cakes can be arranged, and those employees with birthdays coming up in that particular month, their names can be called upon to cut these cakes together with all other employees singing the birthday song. This birthday celebration can also be combined with other events like rewarding loyalty bands or any other rewards like star of the month, etc.
