New HR Professional Seeking Creative Ideas for an Engaging Employee Motivation Presentation

Hi Friends, I need your help here. I am a new HR professional in a private company. It's been 2.5 months since I started working here. I have been assigned a task to give a presentation on motivating employees in my organization. Our training center employs ex-Army servicemen as trainers and also has doctors on our faculty.

Seeking Ideas for an Engaging Presentation

I am looking for some good ideas on how to make my 8-10 minute presentation lively and encourage active participation from the employees.

We have a total of 35 employees as trainers. We send them to various locations in Punjab (mostly interior). We are organizing a dinner party for them in which my boss is telling me to give them a little motivational lecture of about 8 to 10 minutes. Now I'm in a fix as I'm in my early 20s and the employees I have to give a motivational lecture to are mostly in their 50s and 60s.

I expect that there shall be a positive effect of my slide showing and a little talk to them, and they should start concentrating on their job rather than complaints and politics where they are aggressively engrossed.

Age Doesn't Matter

Observe the weak areas in their performance and analyze the root cause. It may be:

- They are near retirement, so they may not bother about performance.
- They have great job security, so they take things lightly.
- They are not ambitious. Help them set their goals.
- They have not done succession planning. Help them in that direction.

In the process, tell them that you are not teaching or preaching. You are just sharing your ideas. Add that you may be wrong. Give them credit for their experience. Request them to share their views. Ask them how they can guide the rest of you for the development of the company. Your tone should be that they know more than you, so you are asking them. In reality, under the cover, you are teaching them.

Final question to them: How can they contribute to the company more than they have done so far? You can even use the World Cafe technique to involve them.

I quite agree with Vidhisha. What you need to do first is to connect with all employees in your organization. Make them feel that you are not harmful to them anymore. Being frank does not mean being completely frank; just connect with them first and try to understand them closely.

When conducting a motivation class, remember to keep a smile on your face. It will make you look fresh at that moment.

Benefits of Your Company

Always explain the benefits of your company and the opportunities for further growth. Let them know that they can grow with this organization in the future.

If your company is related to FMCG product sales, then it is more critical to motivate, but it is also easier.

Explain in detail and then review your questions so that they are clear on everything.

Most importantly, learning is crucial. Take them through Bloom's taxonomy.
