Stuck in Front Office? Seeking Advice on Transitioning to an HR Executive Role in Corporate Settings

Hello everyone, I have been working in a construction company as a Front Office Assistant for 2 years. Even though my position is in the Front Office, I am involved in recruitment (manpower required on-site), all MIS work, issuing warning letters, appointment letters, conducting exit interviews, handling full and final settlements, managing attendance, and overseeing payroll.

Transitioning to an HR Executive Role

I am unable to be promoted to an HR executive within my current company. Could you please guide me on the process to transition into an executive role in HR within a corporate setting?

I think you should consider pursuing a part-time MBA to enhance your resume and skill set. Your experience will significantly benefit you in securing a position as an HR executive. Alternatively, you could explore opportunities in recruitment with a consulting firm and later transition into a generalist role.

I greatly appreciate your dedication to your work conditions. Apart from your front office duties, you are also handling other tasks. In regard to your query about transitioning from your current position to an "HR-EXECUTIVE" role, it seems like you are already performing most HR-Executive responsibilities. Job knowledge is paramount, as professional qualifications are merely ornamental without practical experience. You have not mentioned the strength of your organization. If your organization is large, you could approach your Head of Department (HOD) and request a change in designation based on the work you are currently doing. In smaller organizations, individuals often handle multiple roles. If you are a graduate or postgraduate, consider enhancing your qualifications and gaining knowledge from textbooks to apply practically in your job. This way, you can become a proficient professional in HR (this is my opinion).

I am working as a Secretary with around 15 years of experience (age is 42 years). My qualification is B.Com + Diploma in HR, and currently, I am pursuing an MBA - HR 4th semester from Sikkim Manipal University.

However, I have not been promoted in my current company's HR department, and I have not received any opportunities in other organizations. I would like to know if I should continue searching for an entry-level HR Executive position or stay in my current Secretary role.
