Torn Between MBA and SAP? Seeking Advice on Which to Prioritize and SAP Requirements

AakritiKalla
I am a BBA (2011) graduate, working as an HR Executive in an IT company. I was planning to continue working and pursue an MBA through Distance Learning. However, after reading posts on this useful site, I have come to know that SAP is also very beneficial. Although I aspire to do both an MBA and SAP at some point in my life, I am uncertain about which one I should prioritize. Are there any specific requirements for pursuing SAP?

Thank you.

If you want to pursue SAP HCM, it is better to do an MBA first. After completing the SAP course, it is meaningless to go for an MBA. If you have knowledge in all HR activities and basic computer skills, it is enough for you to do SAP.

Well, there is no need to worry about anything. You can enroll yourself in an MBA program and continue the SAP Certification Course along with your studies. SAP only requires 1 to 2 hours for a few months, whereas an MBA is a two-year program. Many people are managing both simultaneously, and I believe you can do the same. Opting for an MBA through distance learning or weekend classes will enable you to balance your MBA studies and SAP certification, as these options allow students/candidates to attend classes 5-6 times weekly.

Best of luck!

Doing an MBA always has an edge over taking an SAP course in HR. I am not discounting the importance of SAP, but by pursuing an MBA, your opportunities in the job market will significantly expand. There are also possibilities of receiving training with a company's sponsorship.

Another advantage is that by obtaining an MBA, you will enter the corporate world at a higher level.

Dear Akrithi,

First of all, congratulations on being an HR executive in an IT company at such a young age. I am sure you have understood many HR aspects that you are planning to study in the coming time. I would request you or any knowledgeable person to shed some light on SAP-HR because I seem to be ignorant about it.

Secondly, Akrithi, I am currently pursuing an MBA in HR and finance with a major in HR. Frankly speaking, studying the course may be way too easy for you as you have already dealt with the practical aspects. However, on the other hand, the majority of companies demand an MBA degree to move up the corporate ladder. Apart from experience, a valid degree is also required.

From what I have understood from the above posts, SAP is a certificate course. In that case, you can certainly go for both options, but a certificate course cannot be equated to an MBA degree.

God bless all.

If you are confused about whether to pursue an MBA or SAP first, I suggest considering both. You can pursue an MBA from a recognized university and simultaneously take a SAP course with expert trainers to guide you. With SAP, you can build a career in production, controlling, finance, ERP, and more.
