Considering a Shift to HR: Will My Company Support My Career Transition?

mm priya
Hi everybody, this is Priya. I am working as an admin executive in one of the branches of my company. Actually, this is a separate division. I was hired by my division head, and I have a good reputation in the division as well as in my head office.

Considering a New Opportunity in HR

Now, in my head office, there is a vacancy for an HR executive job. As an MBA graduate, I am considering applying for that job even though I don't have experience in that field.

Seeking Advice on Career Transition

My concern is whether my HOD will allow me to take that job if I apply. Will the company give me a chance to prove myself in the HR field too? Please clarify.

As per my opinion, you should go ahead and have a word regarding your interest in the HR Executive post with your division head. There are chances that he may recommend you for the position, increasing your chances of getting the job. After that, you can speak to the HR people at the corporate office. In my experience, my friend was in customer relations, and after completing her MBA in HR, she transitioned to the HR department in the same company.

Hi Priya, I am also facing the same situation. I am an executive admin in a manufacturing company. I have shown interest in the HR field, and my Managing Director gave me a chance. However, after five months, the management decided for me to continue working in the admin department. Unfortunately, nobody gives respect to the admin executive, and it has been difficult since changing my role from HR to admin. You can try your best in your situation as well.

Thank you.

This is Pawan Kumar. I am working in a manufacturing company as an Assistant Manager in Production. I have 10 years of experience in this field. However, I completed my MBA in HRM in 2010. I have some interest in the HR field. Can I change my career path to HR? I don't have extensive knowledge about HR. If yes, what position should I try for? Currently, I am continuing to work in production. I don't have higher education in the production field such as a BE or B.Tech. Please suggest to me if my qualifications align with the HR field.

Thank you.
