Driver Dies in Crane Accident Blaze

by CW Staff on Jun 21, 2012

A Filipino crane operator died when the crane he was operating hit a high-voltage power cable in Al Lisaili on Sunday evening, according to the Dubai Police Traffic Department. The crane operator had failed to gauge the height of his vehicle and ended up hitting the cable, which sparked various fires on the crane itself, said Maj Gen Eng. Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, director of the Traffic Department.

"He attempted to douse the fire using an extinguisher, but failed, and ended up sustaining serious burns, which caused his immediate death at the site of the accident. Civil Defence vehicles rushed to the site to put out the crane fire," said Al Zafein.

"Safety starts with attitude."
