Hi
Mr.Sharma has already shared some important inputs regarding suggestion schemes. I would like to add to his suggestions and share
my views on implementing the suggestion scheme to make it effective.
Ideally it would be wonderful to take the employees through an
introductory program on the need for, the expectations from and the implementation process of the suggestion scheme. It would help if some
practical ideas of suggestions have been implemented in various areas be it shop floor, accounts, HR, marketing etc are shared. Wind up this session with some pointers on how the company plans to
acknowledge, appreciate and reward the participants and particularly the good suggestions. Also announce the composition of the suggestion screening committee which must ideal consist of representatives from different departments.
It would be best to put up
suggestion boxes at key places where people meet e.g. the main gate, the canteen entrance, shop floor entrance etc. Also ensure that the suggestions are periodically collected and studied by the committee and regular updates given to all. It would also motivate if those giving suggestions are send a
note of appreciation. While initially there could be very poor response to the program, regular communication and personal suggestions to employees by their bosses can encourage people t give suggestions. It is also possible that some people would be carried away and give umpteen and weird suggestions. So it would be good to
limit the suggestions to 2 per month and only one suggestion per entry. If you can design a broad
suggestion submission format to standardize the input as also a
suggestion evaluation outline it would help to give more clarity to the participants.
I hope I have shared enough inputs for you to make a beginning and I wish you all the best.
