How to Handle Being Wrongly Accused of Absconding After Resignation?

I worked in a real estate company for a year as an assistant manager in HR. I observed the culture of the company for over a year and noticed that not a single employee left the organization on friendly terms. Whenever an employee expressed their intention to resign due to various reasons, the management would start exerting unnecessary pressure on them. Being in HR, I was privy to all the details about the company.

A few weeks ago, I also received a very good opportunity to work with another company. I found myself in the same situation as other employees had been in. I decided to resign, citing an urgent matter at home. I submitted my resignation and began handing over my responsibilities to my colleague to maintain ethics. However, after 7 days, it became known through undisclosed channels that I was leaving for a better opportunity. Subsequently, they began pressuring me, leading to my decision to leave the organization. I sent a leave notice 8 days after my resignation and departed from the company.

Following my departure, they labeled me as absconded and sent an email to all employees stating that I had absconded with company property.

I am concerned about whether this situation will have a negative impact on my future career, especially since I am currently employed in a good company with a positive work environment.

I would appreciate any advice as I find myself in a difficult situation.

Do you have an acknowledged copy of your resignation? You can use it as proof of your resignation and acceptance by the management. If your current company conducts background verification, discuss the matter with a senior. I am sure that since you have worked at your previous company for a year, you would have a good rapport with some seniors. Provide their reference. Also, make sure to discuss this situation in advance during your future interviews.

If you are from the same industry, the company might be infamous for such episodes.

Thank you for your inputs on the same. As they have not accepted my resignation, I do not have the acknowledged copy of the same. However, I have conveyed everything to my current company's top management, including my Head of HR. Hence, they do not have any objection to the matter; moreover, they are supporting me as I have explained my previous company's culture to them.

Confirmation on Resignation Response Time

I just want to confirm that as per the Shop and Establishment Act, if an employee resigns, the management has to respond within 48 working hours. In my case, they did not respond even after 7 days.

I had a good relationship with every employee in my previous organization, but nobody wants to have a conflict with the management. Hence, I am concerned that they may not provide positive feedback about me.

I am waiting for your reply on the same.

If I send a follow-up email for the acknowledgment, they might ask me to come down to the office. Again, I will have to go through a very humiliating round of interaction with all those people. I will also try to give the phone number of my ex-seniors, ignoring any written communication for any future reference (thanks for your suggestion on the same).

I am supposed to serve a notice period of 60 days. I had received a better job opportunity, but they wanted me to join within a month. I resigned 20 days ago, requesting my company to allow me to serve one month's notice and deduct salary for the shortfall of the notice period (the remaining one month). My company has been reluctant, and eventually, I had to speak with my new company to inform them. With God's grace, they extended my joining date by a month. Thus, I informed my company that I am willing to serve the full 60 days' notice, effective from the date I resigned (20 days ago). Would my company ask me to serve the full 60 days' notice starting today? I am confused and request seniors to help.
