India's First "Talking" Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for the Visually Impaired

India's first "talking" Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for the visually impaired was inaugurated at the Blind People Association in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The ATM by the Union Bank of India is the first of its kind for the visually challenged.

Users have to plug in a headphone into the ATM, which has a unique voice interface. Once this is done, the machine guides them through further operations. The ATM can also be operated by wheelchair-bound persons.

There are about 20,000 blind individuals in Ahmedabad who can use the ATM, which is also available for use by the general public for transactions.
