Dear HRs, as per government policy, the washing allowance has once again been increased by 25%, bringing it to Rs. 75 per month. I would like to know the following:

• What is the maximum limit for the washing allowance?
• Does this apply to the Factory Act and the State's Shops & Establishments Act, 1948?
• Is it taxable or non-taxable?

Notification on Washing Allowance

This is a notification from 2008 and is not new. This is applicable only to central government specified categories and not for any industrial establishments. There is no law in India specifying a minimum washing allowance.

What is the maximum limit of washing allowance as per law? How should the amount be determined? Is the charge based on the basic or gross amount, and at what percentage?
