Feeling Stuck with Outdated HR Practices: Should I Stay or Move On?

Seeking Advice on HR Department Development

I need some help from you people. My problem is that presently, where I am working, there is no HR team, no HR head, and the policies that are being followed here are very old and traditional.

I have discussed this with my boss, explaining that the current practices we are following are quite outdated, and we need to develop our HR department. However, he is not showing any interest. I am confused about what I should do. I feel like quitting my job because it doesn't make any sense to work here as I won't be getting exposure to other aspects of HR.

I appreciate the advice you have given, but we really don't have separate admin, recruitment, and payroll departments. I am the only person who looks after each department with the help of my assistant.

Implementing an HR Team

As I have seen in other firms, there is an HR team with responsibilities assigned to each person department-wise, and that is what I want to implement here. There is hardly any procedure for recruitment, training and development, induction, performance appraisal, employee engagement, and exit interviews, etc., presently where I am working.

Thanks and Regards,
Ronnie Francis.

My Experience in HR and Administration

Four years ago, I was the head of HR, Admin, and IT. There was one junior in HR, two in admin, and one full-time employee plus one part-time employee in IT. I used to manage all of them on a profit center basis.

Adapting to New Environments

Two years ago, I shifted abroad where resources are scarce. One has to handle everything on their own. A capable person in your position would have managed their routine tasks effectively and taken on additional small tasks gradually whenever time permitted, thus transforming things single-handedly.
