Facing Retrenchment in an NGO: Can You Claim Compensation for Shortened Contracts?

H R pointers
I have been working in an NGO for more than 10 years. Initially, the nature of the appointment was on a contract term for 3 years. However, for the past year, the management has been issuing contract letters for periods ranging from 6 months to 3 months due to constraints in receiving funds from our partners. There are discussions within the management circle about reducing the staff strength. If a staff member is retrenched, can he/she claim compensation? Kindly advise.

A workman who has put in 240 days of service in a period of 12 months preceding the date of termination is entitled to retrenchment compensation under the Industrial Disputes Act.
