The state government of Bihar launched the Unorganized Sector Workers and Artisans Social Security Scheme at a function organized in March 2012 to commemorate Bihar's centenary. Workers aged between 18 and 65 years, working in unorganized sectors, will be covered under this scheme. Dependents of a worker who dies in an accident will receive Rs 1 lakh, and Rs 75,000 in case of injury leading to disability. Additionally, Rs 30,000 will be provided in the event of natural death. Children of those employed in 88 types of unorganized sectors will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,200 to pursue studies in industrial training institutes (ITI) or polytechnics. This scheme is expected to benefit over 50,000 workers currently employed in the construction field.
