Could someone please help me with the hierarchy of designations/positions in the HR departments of companies - from lower to top level.

Interesting question - the hierarchy depends on the organizational structure of the company and it differs from industry to industry. For example, in most companies, these designations follow from bottom to top:

Trainee-HR
HR Assistant
Junior Officer
Senior Officer
Junior Executive-HR
Senior Executive-HR
Asst. Manager-HR
Manager-HR
DGM-HR
Asst. GM-HR
GM-HR
Zonal-HR
Head-HR
VP-HR
