Confused About PF Account After Job Changes: Should I Withdraw or Transfer It?

kishor.satyawali
I would like to get some insights into the PF matter. I have worked in one company for 5 years and thereafter joined a second company for 3 years. I had my PF amount transferred to my second company. After this, I left and joined a third company where there was no PF account. So, my PF account remained without any contribution for 3 years, and now I have joined a fourth company where, again, PF contribution is mandatory.

Advice Needed on PF Account Management

Could someone advise me on what I should do with my previous PF account? Should I withdraw it or transfer it for future monetary gains? I am very confused as there was no contribution to my previous PF account for almost 3 years.

Suppose I decide to transfer it to my new company account, would it be processed without any problem (as I am skeptical about the 3-year gap of non-contribution)? Kindly help me out in this matter.

Regards,
Kishor

Hi Kishore, that doesn't matter. You should request a transfer of your PF from the second company to the fourth company.

Dear Mr. Kishor,

Yes, you can transfer your PF amount from your 2nd Company to the 4th Company. To transfer your account from the previous Company to the current Company, you should follow these steps:

1. Know your PF number of the previous organization, as well as the current organization.
2. Know the address of the PF office (Regional or Sub-regional).
3. Fill up the PF Transfer form 13R (Revised) and hand it over to the HR Dept. of your current organization.

Before following the above instructions, it would always be better to contact the HR Dept. of your previous organization.

If you do not want to transfer your PF account, you can withdraw your PF amount by filling up forms 19 and 10C.

I had worked at RITES Ltd for the last 4 and a half years on a contractual basis and now have joined Punjab National Bank as a permanent employee. My PF was deducted from RITES on a monthly basis. Now, I have asked officials in PNB to provide the details of PF in Form 13 to transfer my funds to the PF of PNB, which they say is not possible under the New Pension Scheme. Meanwhile, officials at RITES are not allowing me to withdraw, stating that only in the case of unemployment can the PF be withdrawn. Please help me out. Also, I want to know if I withdraw my PF after 5 years without transferring to PNB, will TDS be deducted?

You can withdraw your PF after 2 months from the date of leaving RITES. Apply using Form 19 and Form 10C. No TDS will be deducted if your employment is for 5 years. If it is less than 5 years, then TDS will be applicable.

I have recently joined a new company. My previous employer was a company based in Maharashtra, and I worked in Bangalore for that company. I am now in Karnataka and would like to know if I can transfer my PF amount from Maharashtra to my current company in Karnataka. If possible, what are the formalities that need to be completed? I would appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Yes, you can transfer PF from one place to another anywhere in India. All you need is for your current employer to send Form 13 to the previous employer, and it should be submitted at the designated PF office of the previous employer.
