Notice Period Dilemma: Can I Leave My Job Before the 3-Month Requirement?

Tanusri Rimmalapudi
I am working for a software company, and my notice period is 3 months. I want to be relieved from my current position as early as possible. In this regard, I would like to request information regarding the norms related to the notice period. Is it mandatory to serve the full notice period after submitting the resignation letter? What options are available to be relieved before the completion of the 3-month period?

Kindly suggest.

Please review your appointment letter and read the terms and conditions. Generally, if you want to be relieved before serving the notice period, you have to pay the salary (basic) for three months in lieu of service.

Hi, as per your details mentioned, I can suggest giving a 3-month notice period. If you have any clause for payment in lieu of the 3-month notice period, you can proceed with it if you want to move as soon as possible. However, make sure that the process is formal and smooth so that even if you join another company, you can receive good feedback from your current company. Nowadays, background verification plays a more crucial role.

All the best.

Some companies also allow the option of adjusting your eligible Privilege Leave against your notice period. After adjusting the same, if you still have to serve your notice period, then the remaining period can be paid by you, or the company can adjust it in your full and final settlement.
