Job Title Changed After Joining: Is It a Big Deal and What Should I Do Next?

kapoorTarun
As per my offer letter, I have joined a financial broking company as Branch Manager - Business Development. But after 10 days of my joining, they changed my profile name to Manager - Business Development. The reason for the change is not clear. Would it be a similar one? What are the consequences? What should be my next step? Please guide me urgently.

Firstly, I would like to know if your job profile and designation were discussed in detail with you at the time of the interview. Secondly, does your appointment letter contain any clauses stating relevant changes in designation, location of work, etc.? Also, after the change in designation, have the job responsibilities assigned to you changed?

Discuss in detail regarding the changes with your HR head and ask for relevant explanations. You can even approach your reporting head for the same. Such matters require patience and tactful handling of the situation without disputes.

The job profile and designation were discussed in detail. Earlier, it was a team handling profile, but now they have made it individual. As far as the appointment letter is concerned, I haven't received it yet. However, in the offer letter, there is no such clause. Thank you so much for your prompt response.

Generally, the appointment letter includes the terms and conditions of the service. I would suggest you ask about your appointment letter from your HR Department. This will help you understand your role/job profile, and then you can discuss your query with the HR department. I wish you good luck in resolving the issue as soon as possible.
Regards.

First, try to understand the promoter/top management perspective: they may be having a change of business plan/resources, etc. The next question would be your role. Depending on your abilities and circumstances, decide on your plan of action.
