I have completed my MBA. I am very good at the theoretical part, but I feel that I lack practical knowledge, such as various labor laws and issues related to employees. Questions based on this are often asked in interviews.

One way of acquiring practical knowledge, as Mr. Muthu suggested, is to work in an HR generalist profile or, as Mr. Curious Guy suggested, to work in a labor law firm dealing with various labor issues. This is truly a good platform for serious learners, or to work with hardcore HR consultants (not recruitment consultants) who deal with real HR areas like performance evaluation, compensation designing, severance handling, full and final payment settlements, and industrial relation issues.

You can attend some practical training courses that are available in all major cities. They will help you gain the basic knowledge needed to clear interviews. Additionally, once you start working, you will not feel lost when tasks are assigned to you, as you will have all the basic knowledge required to carry out HR activities.

Interview Preparation Tips for Freshers and Experienced Candidates

This is Durga Choudary. Actually, as a fresher, during any interview, management typically does not ask difficult questions. Freshers are usually asked:

• Tell me about yourself.
• What about your family background?
• How much salary do you expect?
• Are you able to work 12 hours?
• Are you interested in working in any department?

Once you have experience, the questions change:

• How much experience do you have in which field?
• What is the procedure for recruitment?
• What is the PF structure?
• What is the present wage as per government regulations?

They ask questions like these. Be bold in your interviews. All the best.

You will get practical knowledge only when you work on it. If you are not in a job and still need some knowledge, try meeting your friends or relatives who are currently working. Ask them about their questions regarding their PF or salary-related matters and try to find answers for their questions on your own. (Note: Each person will have their own doubts, and you will come to know only after interacting with them). I hope this will help you gain some knowledge. In interviews, they will never ask questions so deeply. It's better to be frank enough to say that you are a fresher and don't have any practical experience.
