Company Name Change: What Impact Will It Have on Documents and Reputation?

yasodhara_08
The director of my company has decided to change the name of the company. Can someone please suggest what type of changes it can have? Is it important to change the documents of all employees that we had given under the old name? Will this have any effect on the company's prestige, or has it happened with some other company as well?

Thanks,

You cannot just change the name of the company at will; you have to apply to the Registrar of Companies and get the registration certificate amended. Additionally, you must take steps to update the service tax number, PAN number, TAN number, and all other legally registered documents. Don't forget to issue a notification in the gazette.

No changes need to be made to the documents given to employees, but from the date the company name is changed, you should issue all payslips and letters under the new name, with the old name in brackets. For example: SWEETY CO LTD (Formerly TWEETY CO LTD).

Next, you need to print new signboards, banners, and arrange for stationery accordingly. I have experience with this as we changed our organization's name last year due to some management changes, so I am familiar with the process.

Take care.

Thanks for your response. One more thing, can you suggest to me if I need to write "formerly" as you provided an example for this? I did not understand this clearly. Will the updated logo also be included in the logo?

Thanks,

Using the word "formerly" will not only help your clients, employees, and others easily recognize your organization; hence, it is advised to use the word "formerly."
