ESI Contribution Confusion: Should Cheques Be Cleared or Deposited by the 21st?

Hi! We have received an interest and damage note from ESI as we deposited our monthly ESI contribution by cheque on the 21st, and the cheques cleared within 2-3 days. I just wanted to know whether the monthly ESI contribution should be deposited to the bank by cheque on the 21st or if the cheque should be cleared by the bank by the 21st.

The ESI as well as the PF authorities will consider the cheque clearance date only, not the deposited date. Hence, it is better to deposit the cheque 2 days before the 21st.
