Dealing with Faculty Absenteeism and Negligence
From your perspective, it seems you are going to issue a show-cause notice to a faculty member serving at a university. In this case, who is the authority to deal with inappropriate, lethargic, unaccountable, least mindful service, and absenteeism from faculty duties? The action needs to be taken by none other than the appropriate authority.
First, inform the Head of the Department (HOD) of the particular branch to file a proper complaint regarding the faculty member's absence. Issue an order to either remove their name from attendance records, mark them as long absent, or strike off their name, as per the decision of the appropriate authority. A letter should be issued stating the negligence of duty.
Secondly, after informing the faculty member about their absence and taking necessary actions, a show-cause notice should be issued by the authority. This notice should question why such appropriate action should not be taken against the faculty for causing harm to the students.
Thirdly, punitive action should be initiated. In the meantime, another solution of engaging guest faculties should be considered to protect the students from being impacted.
You cannot take direct action against a faculty member without evaluating the punitive measures. However, in the case of a private university, such actions can be initiated if the authorities deem it necessary. Moreover, they are governed by the UGC rules, some of which fall under other State/Central education/university regulations. It's a painful truth.
