Seeking Ideas for Engaging Employee Activities: What Would You Suggest?

Respected all, my name is Navdeep, and I am working with a software company named Meharsoft Technologies near Chandigarh. I am working as an Assistant HR Manager. We have just completed one-to-one sessions named "Let's initiate a talk." Now I want to start a new activity but am confused. Please help me decide on which activity I can start.

Pair people up and have them find out about each other. Then, have them introduce each other in front of the group.

You can organize one-on-one sessions between the Line Manager and the employees or between HR and an employee to understand the pulse of the employees. Such sessions are beneficial for comprehending the aspirations, suggestions, or complaints of the employees. You can name this session 'Feel the Pulse' or 'Between Us'. Additionally, you may organize some team-building games that would provide employees with the opportunity to get to know each other.

For a company with 12 employees, Navdeep, there has to be a very strong bond even otherwise. I don't know how many HR people are there, but I agree that bonding is important and critical for such an organization. Have you measured the current level of bonding with HR? And what is the target level you want to achieve? Please share the details, and then we can look at the situation more objectively and suggest.

Our company has three branches in Malout, Zirakpur, and Hamirpur. We have a team of four HR people in total, but we are working in different divisions. I am referring to the Zirakpur branch where two HR professionals are currently present. There isn't a strong bond between HR and developers, and I aim to enhance that.

I am working in the same kind of small unit organization. In my company, to increase the bond, I have started a few activities like:

1. Birthday celebrations at the end of each month.
2. Employee of the Month recognition.
3. Some team-building or fun games like "Color Day" where people dress in a particular color on a specific day.
4. Fun Day.
5. Guess Day where employees have to guess lines used by coworkers or habits they have, or identify objects based on photos.
6. Movie Day on a Saturday or a day with reduced working hours, showing a fun movie with snacks like popcorn and drinks in a common area for relaxation.
7. Fun games such as "Mummy Making," "Balloon Bumping," "Paper Dance," or "Burn the Candle."

By implementing these activities, it won't require much money, but your team will become more connected with each other and the organization. Engaging in these activities will help them focus on positive interactions rather than getting involved in office politics, creating a healthier environment for all.

This might be a good time to start employee safety programs, such as ergonomic training and safety assessments. This will help establish a safety culture and mindset from the very beginning.

In my opinion, you should start any type of weekend game by creating a new one. Begin by organizing and planning your office day for a tour or any target you aim to achieve. Then, enjoy lunch or dinner, whichever you prefer.

Since it is a small group, your team should sit together and discuss "How to satisfy the customer with our services provided" or on the subject of "customer satisfaction." Brainstorm on these issues one by one and try to solve them within a fixed time frame. This approach will not only benefit the organization but also assign specific responsibilities to individual employees.

Like we used to have an early morning session for half an hour where we brainstormed on any topic. We elected a Forum Leader for a week who assigned the topics and games like hangman, etc.

You may celebrate birthdays of employees at the end of the month and have a get-together to felicitate the best-performing employee (he should be adjudged as such by all HODs). Organize games, quizzes (related to the activities of the company), picnics, the foundation day of the company, etc., at proper intervals. You may involve families of the employees in events like picnics, quizzes, and drawing/painting competitions. You may also introduce a scheme to reward the brilliant employees' children who show exceptional performance in their Board examinations, etc.

Please examine the feasibility on your end and start introducing the above and similar schemes one by one. I am sure this will certainly integrate employees with the company.

You can incorporate team-building games at the end of every month, such as celebrating birthdays, one-minute games, scavenger hunts, treasure hunts, and themed days with specific dress codes like Black and White Day or Green Day.

You can organize a monthly activity session by forming a team of 5 people and allowing them to arrange activities such as games or any other interactive activity.
