One of the employees joined on the 13th of June 2011. As per company norms, employees are entitled to receive 15 VL (Vacation Leave) and 15 SL (Sick Leave) from January to December. The first six months of employment are considered the probation period, during which the employee is not entitled to any leaves.

Calculating Prorated Leaves

How do we calculate leaves as per the calendar year, prorated earned leaves from the employee's hiring date with the company? Please help me, all of you here at citehr. Thanks a lot in advance.

Regards.

Dear Dayut, Earned leave is to be calculated as one day for every 20 working days. At the end of the calendar year, you can calculate the number of worked days in that year. In your case, from June 13th to December 31st, 2011, divide the total by 20 to arrive at the exact earned leave balance. Please note that earned leave is to be calculated from the Date of Joining (DOJ).

Vacation Leave (VL) and Sick Leave (SL) Calculation

Regarding VL (Vacation Leave) and SL (Sick Leave), it can be calculated as 15 days divided by 12, which equals 1.25 days per month. For example, if the Date of Confirmation (DOC) was December 12th, 2011, and there were only 19 days left in that year, you can allocate one day each in VL and SL for 2011.

Sincerely,
