How Should Half-Day Leaves Around Holi Be Counted? Seeking Urgent Advice

jyotimudgil@rediffmail.com
Dear all seniors, This is a query regarding recent Holi festival leaves. If an employee takes half-day leave before the Holi festival and half-day leave after the Holi festival, should it be considered as only two half-day leaves, or should the Holi festival also be calculated in that? My company management is not willing to accept that this would be counted as only one leave, not two leaves. Please help immediately. If I can get good references about these holiday queries from any thread or leave acts or something. My company is covered under the "Punjab Shop and Commercial Establishment Act."

Please assist at the earliest.

Understanding Leave Calculation Around Holi

Half-day (2nd half) before Holi and the first half after Holi means it is two days of leave. Intervening holidays for casual leave will be counted as part of the leave.

If the first half is before Holi or the second half is after Holi, it is considered as 2 half days, i.e., one day of leave, and Holi is a holiday. Similarly, if one day is taken before Holi and one day after Holi (casual leave), then it should be counted as 3 days, not 2 days.

In general, for casual and sick leave, this is the process. In the case of paid or earned leave, the intervening holidays are not considered as part of the leave. Most organizations follow a similar procedure, which also depends on the leave policy of the company.

Kamesh
