Is This Senior Employee's Salary Slip Real? Seeking HR Community's Insight

varun yadav
Hi HR Fraternities,

Happy Independence Day to all.

My name is Varun Yadav, and I work as an HR Executive in a recruiting firm. I have a query regarding the authenticity of the salary slip of one of the senior employees. I have doubts due to my limited exposure in this HR domain.

I am looking forward to a quick response from the HR community. Responses with attached reasons will be highly appreciated. Please let me know the authenticity of this payslip. You can send your reply to varun@anlagehro.com.

Hi Varun,

The payslip attached is fake. However, we cannot determine the components of the payslip. The PT is not deducted as Rs. 80.00 for this payment amount. According to statutory norms, it should be Rs. 200.00. There is also no PF deduction.

Hi,

As Varun said, the attached certificate is fake. For all the salary components, there is a basic formula followed. For example, the basic should be 40% of the Total CTC, and HRA should be 40% of the basic, etc.

If the candidate claims the certificate is correct, ask the candidate to provide a copy of the bank statement.

Hope this clarifies.

Dilnaz

Dear Mr. Varun,

It's purely fake. We can clearly see by looking at the PT component that it is not charged as 80; it's 200/-. Regarding other components, we cannot comment. Please ask him to submit the last two months' bank statements where his/her salary is reflected.

Goodbye,
Swathi

Hi Varun,

The salary slip is completely fake. As mentioned by other members, the medical allowance and conveyance allowance are also doubtful. This is because no company wants to deduct taxes from anybody's salary. Only 1250 rupees for medical expenses and 825 rupees for conveyance are exempted from taxes.

Dear Varun,

The payslip is clearly a fake. First of all, it shows that Rs. 80/- is deducted as PT. However, in India, PT is deducted in two ways - Rs. 200/- for Non-IT and Rs. 400/- for IT. Also, there won't be two terms called Basic and Net Basic.

At times, there might not be a PF deduction (in the case of organizations with fewer than 20 employees). However, you can check this by the size of the company.

Regards,
Harsha.

Hi Varun,

Please ask for his appointment letter and the recent appraisal letter that he has received from his current company, which states his annual compensation. Also, ask him to submit his past 3 months' salary slip, which will help you decide upon the salary - whether it is fake or real. I hope this information might help you.

If you are in any way in such a situation, always ask for any documentation as mentioned above from the candidate, and he will have to provide it to you if he is not bluffing.

Regards,
Ankita

Salary slips may be genuine because some companies offer Cost to Company (CTC) in such a format that the employee can work as a consultant. Tax liabilities are totally on the employee. Only TDS is deducted. For confirmation, ask him to provide a bank statement.

Dear Varun,

Like mentioned earlier by our members, please ask for his recent revision letter and his bank statement for the past three months.

Hi Varun,

It has been established by all our HR team members that it is fake, so I am not going to say more on that. However, the best way to check the genuineness is to ask candidates to provide a copy of their original signed either increment letter or appointment letter along with a scanned copy of the pay slip. This works out to be better, and you can seriously put pressure on the candidate to provide authentic stuff.

Cheers! Seema

Whenever you ask for a salary certificate, kindly make sure you ask for a scanned copy and also feel free to do a background check for the same... smartly. And this is for sure a fake one. Cheers, M.T.
