Gas Cyliners - Jpg Download

Dear all
I have a situation in my site. For gas cutting at height level (about 40 meter) the contractor used to keep the gas cylinders at ground level. Now they shifted the gas cylinders at top to save hose. They kept cylinders in a cage. I keep on telling not to keep gas cylinders at top and it should be kept at ground level only.
I just want to know is there any restriction to keep gas cylinders at top while working? If any legal requirement is there then i can strongly force them.
Please share your experience / knowledge.
Thanks and regards
Vijay

Dear Vijay
As per my knowledge there is no issue in keeping the cylinder in the top floors... Only thing you should ensure that the safe handling of cylinders to the top and back... Don't allow persons to lift it upon the shoulders as this is very common practice still any many Indian Industries... Also don't allow to lift the cylinders by holding the valve protection cap...
Safe Mechanical arrangement should be ensured for shifting the cylinders to the top floors... If you can ensure this, no issues...
Come up with more idea about the scenario, how you are handling the cylinders at site for our member's to give more comments...

Dear Vijay,
I never heard it’s an issue to keeping cylinders on floors make sure it’s should not be placed near by any WALL OPENING’s. As you said now cylinder bottles are on above 40 feet I hope they carried MANUALLY. In some cases manual handling is allowed it’s depending upon the situation. If you need to carry cylinder bottles manually means you should put PROTECION CAP 100%.
Take usual precaution for Gas cutting
If you have any questions let us know. . .
Note: Manual Handling only allowed where we can’t move IN and OUT our trolley at the time of MH cylinder bottles SHOULD be protected by VALUE PROTECION CAP
Dear Dipil,
Thanks for your guidelines. . .

Keep on touch. . .

Dear Vijay,
Mr. Dipil amd Mr. Raghu have correctly answersed your query.
There is no such legal requirement, the precautions are to be taken during handling.
Looking at the photograph, may be the rope tied within the MS cage to hold the cylinders looks to be worn out.
You may think of replacing the same with chain.
Mr. Dipil, Mr. Raghu,
Thankyou very much.
Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir

Dear Vijay,
As Mr.Sudhir given comment for your picture. Just i want to add few concern about your picture
  • Cylinder value key must be available near by cylinder bottle (Specially who work on that area they should aware of emergency procedure of gas cutting its very must)
  • No permanent platform for your cylinder bottle storage (Its seems like u put G.I sheet on bottom its needs to be changed)
  • I suggest you please use chain to hold the cylinder bottles because u will bring the Cylinder Bottles from bottom to top floor by crane so its needs to be tied properly (If your using in ground floor its fine u will tide with manila rope)
  • Put some sign boards if possible (I hope its legal requirement too)
Dear Sudhir,
Thanks for your input. Keep on sharing. . .

There is no problem in carrying out the job at 40 meter height.it is better from safety point of view.but you make sure that cylinder is not kept at the top after completion of job.till the jpob is in progress it should be chained properly and kept away from flame area and no leakage from any source.preferably the cylinder should be in vertical postion with good chainig arrangement.
If left unattended the chances of falling down of cylinder are there incase of strong wind flow or by some mistake.
