Choosing Between Pune Symbiosis and Manipal University for MBA: Need Urgent Advice from Experienced Professionals

Hi,

I want to go for an MBA degree, and I have two options. Since I already have 9 years of experience, I really need some senior's advice on which one I should opt for - Pune Symbiosis Distance Learning or Sikkim Manipal University Distance Learning.

If anyone can suggest to me by today as I have only 2-3 days in my hand.

Hi there. Remember, Symbiosis will give you a PGDBM, not an MBA. But still, people prefer Symbiosis more. It's completely up to you. 🙄

I am also doing the course from Pune Symbiosis on HR. If you go for a distance course on HR, then Symbiosis is better than others. In the management field, the institute is more important than the degree or diploma.

You must go for Symbiosis - Pune. Their course material is good. More importantly, their assessment of your assignment is very professional. Along with the marks given, they clearly provide you with details of how you have answered. This gives you good feedback on your studies and knowledge gained. It is a reputed institution and will add value to your career. I am giving this feedback from my experience. I did distance learning from Symbiosis - MDBA in Personnel Management 4 years back. You should go for Manipal University for an MBA in HR as they provide you with a degree, and it's UGC recognized, whereas SCDL is not.

I will advise you Symbiosis Pune is better than Manipal. I am also doing my PGDBA from there. The course material is really good and helpful.

Can you tell me why you feel that it doesn't make any difference between a degree and a diploma? If you go for a PG Diploma, is it recognized outside India, because many companies only recognize degrees from universities registered with UGC.

It is only up to you how much you learn from these programs. With your nine years of rich experience, I do not think university or college make any difference now. It would be better to opt for Manipal MBA at this time of year since Symbiosis admissions are closed. By doing so, you can save one precious year.

You can opt for SMU as their degrees are recognized by the HRD Ministry and UGC. If you want to pursue a Ph.D. from any government-recognized university, it is valid, but Symbiosis is not. In the HR field, experience counts more than theoretical knowledge. Under SMU, you will have good contact classes, and their chosen syllabus is updated as per industry needs. The study materials are really good. Their objective type exams are strict and tough, similar to other competitive exams, and you need to study hard to pass. SMU has value, and you may consider opting for it.

Question is not whether it is recognized or deemed; it only matters of contents. As far as my knowledge goes, Symbiosis course content is good, and since you are in a job, it's up to you to choose which one is better. What is the major difference between PGDBA and MBA? Is it only a diploma or degree, or can PGDBA be equivalent to an MBA? Please clarify.

An MBA is a Master's Degree. It is recognized by the UGC of India. Thus, for any job/course/further tasks where the eligibility is post-graduation, a master's degree is only considered. Only the person who has an MBA can call himself a post-graduate. You can go for a Ph.D. based on an MBA. These courses are approved by government bodies.

However, a PGDM is merely a course after graduation. It does not lead to a master's degree; it just adds a further qualification. In the corporate world, a PGDM is treated at par with an MBA if the PGDM is obtained from a standard university. Please do not get fooled by people who say that even IIMs offer PGDM and all that. Though IIMs offer PGDM, they are all great institutes with a huge reputation and great records. You cannot compare them with other institutes.

A master's degree is more valuable than a PGD. That's the reason why an MBA by correspondence asks you for three years of work experience too. Though, in the corporate world, both are treated at par.
