Voting Leave Dilemma: How Many Paid Days Off for Long-Distance Travel?

Santosh_Nayak
Dear Seniors, I just want to know if an employee is going to his native place for voting, which is more than 200 km from his establishment, how many paid holidays he can get - is it 1 or more than that?

Voting Leave Policy

If the elections are taking place in the specific area where the organization is located and if the employee is eligible to vote there, only then should the organization allow that employee to cast their vote. In such cases, the local authorities, such as the election commission or concerned departments, will declare a holiday or issue a notification to permit employees to vote.

If an employee resides outside the voting area, there is no requirement to provide any leave, and the employee must make their way to vote independently.

I think Kamels is right. The election commission issues a gazette notification regarding the leave. As an organization, we are supposed to grant leave on the particular day when voting takes place in the area where the organization is based.

If the employee is going to his hometown, which is far away, to vote, it is entirely at the discretion of management and your policies whether to grant leave or not.

My organization is based in Navi Mumbai, and elections are scheduled to take place in Mumbai, Thane, and other cities on 16th February. Approximately 80% to 90% of our employees are located in the Mumbai and Thane area.

Guidance on Employee Leave for Voting

Could you please guide me on whether we should provide a paid leave or a half-day off to the employees for voting?

As per the notification of the Government, you should give a paid holiday to those workers who are voters of the concerned corporation. However, it is also stated that if the absence of these workers can lead to a significant loss, you may allow them a short leave to cast their votes.

Hope this clarifies the situation.
